Purpose

To orient preschool-age children to the aquatic environment and to help them acquire rudimentary levels of basic aquatic skills

Prerequisites

  • No skill prerequisites for Preschool Level 1, if you are registering for Preschool 2 or 3, please review the skills in the previous level to see if they are eligible for enrollment
  • Child must be at least 3 years old to enroll

Refunds or make-up classes are not available for any missed classes.  Any class cancellations must be made five business days in advance and will incur a $10 processing fee.

  • ECFE Water Explorers Aquatic Event

    Blaine Early Childhood Center (BECC) families: Building Water Comfort,Confidence and Safety for young children. Join us for a fun and engaging ECFE aquatic experience designed to help young children become comfortable around the water while introducing basic water safety skills. Families rotate through six hands-on activity stations, each focused on confidence building movements and playful exploration with plenty of opportunities for parent child connection. Limited space available. Things to know: Target Age: 3 to 5 years. For BECC families only. Focus: Familiarizing children with the water, teaching basic safety, and fostering comfort, rather than independent swimming. Activities: Water entry/exit, submerging, buoyance, and gliding with assistance. Requirements: A parent or caregiver must be in the water with the child. Location: Roosevelt Community Pool in Blaine, 650 125th Ave NE, Blaine, MN 55434 Diapers: Children who are not potty trained must wear a swim diaper. Swimwear: All swimmers must wear proper swim attire. No denim, basketball, jersey or cotton shorts or t-shirts permitted in the water. Rash guards/swim shirts are available. Registration/Cost: Available through the Anoka-Hennepin Community Education website. $10.00 per family (1 adult with 1 or 2 children OR 2 adults with 2 or 3 children) Starfish Float Zone - Skill Focus: Back floating & relaxation.Caregivers support kids in a back float while counting or singing. Treasure Toss - Skill Focus: Submersion & retrieval. Children toss floating toys and practice reaching or dunking to retrieve them. Tunnel Time - Skill Focus: Going under & spatial awareness. Children travel through a floating hoop or noodle tunnel with caregiver help. Jump, Turn, Hold - Skill Focus: Safe entry & wall return. Kids jump in from the side (assisted as needed), turn around, and grab the wall. Rest & Ready Station - Skill Focus: Self-regulation & transitions. A calm area for short breaks, water pours on arms, or gentle sways.
