This class is designed for those interested in learning the timeless art of Oil Painting. Artists love oil paints for their rich colors, durability, and their slow drying time, which allows plenty of time to work on a painting. In this class we will go through the basics of oil painting, from choosing your materials, color studies and theory, blending, creating glazes and washes, painting shadows, and creating contrast and texture in your paintings. The goal of this class is to learn to create your own paintings whatever style you choose to paint in. Supplies will be discussed on the first day of class and a supply list will be sent after registration.

Vanessa Merry’s passion for art began at young age. As a child she attended painting classes with her mother which gave her a first-hand look at the creative process behind a work of art. The artists she met in these classes inspired her, and then and there she knew that wanted to be an artist too. To help fulfill this dream, Vanessa immersed herself in art and took as many art classes as she could. She also entered her first art competition at the age of 16 where she won Best in Show with a pen and ink drawing of Icarus falling.
