  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Class

    The Lifeguarding Instructor course trains instructor candidates to teach American Red Cross Lifeguarding courses including Lifeguarding Shallow Water Lifeguarding Aquatic Attraction Lifeguarding Waterpark Skills Waterfront Skills CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Bloodborne Pathogens Training. This class is taught in a blended learning format and the online portion (accessed via mobile desktop or tablet) must be completed prior to attending the first in-person session of the instructor course. Prerequisites: 1. Minimum age: 17 years 2. Possess a current Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid 3. Ability to successfully demonstrate all Lifeguarding and CPR skills including a precourse assessment to perform a water rescue (submerged drowning) extrication single rescuer CPR for 3 minutes. Lifeguard Instructor Book is included.
  • Competitive Swim Training

    This program is for participants in 6th-12th grades. The prerequisite for this program is: participants must be able to swim 50 continuous yards of freestyle and backstroke, 25 yards of breaststroke or passed Level 4. The following guidelines will need to be followed in order to participate in the program: The participant may enter the pool facility five minutes prior to class. There will be limited locker room usage. Participants are encouraged to bring a bag for their clothes to bring out on the pool deck or they can bring a lock to lock up their belongings. The participant should bring the following: goggles, swim cap, towel, and a plastic water bottle. Please bring the following: googles, kickboard*, and pull buoy*. If you do not have these, you may use the ones provided by Roosevelt. Googles are available for purchase. The participant must be picked up within five minutes after the program is done, as the facility will be closing. This is a drop off and pick up program. If the participant is not feeling well, PLEASE do not come to class. This program is done on a monthly basis. You must register for each month independently to be registered. This includes: Monday & Wednesday Evenings swim practice with coaching Saturday Optional Swim with workout - Drop-in any time between 9:30 am- 11:30 am to complete the posted workout. No partial or pro-rated fees for absences/ vacations/ etc.
  • Open Swim Session

    OPEN SWIM All ages are welcome during our open swim hours! Open swim time allows the opportunity for young swimmers to practice their skills, or just play and have fun. An adult is required to be in the water with children under the age of 7 (within arms reach). Lap swim and water walking in the lanes will also be available during this time as space allows. Open swim includes: Shallow end use for all swimmers Deep end swimming for all swimmers who complete a swim test. Diving board usage - one diving board will be open for diving and forward jumping. Shallow end basketball hoop and balls Rings, noodles, etc. Please note: goggles which over the nose (face mask style) and inflatables are not permitted. If you have a punch card, we will accept these if we have available space. They must be presented at the time of check-in. One punch for each person swimming will be deducted from the punch card. Pre-registration is encouraged, but we will accept drop-ins (depending upon capacity). Please note: refunds are only available on cancellations five days in advance and incur a $1.00 processing fee per transaction.
  • Parent/Child Swim Lessons - Ages 6 mo-3 years

    Please note the following: Please check in at the pool window. You will be able to use the locker room and showers are required before entering the water. Any child not potty trained, must wear a swim diaper in the pool. Swim diapers are available for purchase before class starts or you may bring your own. Purpose To familiarize young children (from ages 6 months to about 3 years) to the water and prepare them to learn to swim in the American Red Cross Preschool Aquatics or Learn-to-Swim courses. It is not designed to teach children to become good swimmers or to survive in the water on their own. Prerequisites No skill prerequisites. Child must be at least 6 months old to enroll. Parent or other caregiver must accompany each child into the water and participate in each class. It can be a different person each time. Learning Objectives (Parent and Child Level 1 and 2 Combined): Learn to ask for permission before entering the water. Learn to expect adult supervision when near water. Learn how to enter and exit the water in a safe manner. Feel comfortable in the water. Explore submerging to the mouth, nose and eyes completely. Explore submerging in a rhythmic pattern completely. Explore buoyancy on the front and back position. Glide on the front and back with assistance. Perform combined stroke on front and back with assistance. Change body position in the water with support. Learn basic water safety rules and how to avoid water hazards around the home. Learn about the importance of wearing a life jacket and experience wearing one. Learn how to stay safe in, on and around the water, including knowing how to stay safe in the sun and how to avoid recreational water illnesses. Learn to look carefully before entering the water. Learn how to call for help and the importance of knowing first aid and CPR. Learn what to think about and do when exhausted or caught in a dangerous situation.
  • Preschool 1 - Ages 3-4

    Purpose: To orient preschool-age children to the aquatic environment and to help them acquire rudimentary levels of basic aquatic skills. Children attend class independently. Prerequisites: Preschool Level 1: No skill prerequisites. Learning Objectives: Enter and exit water using ladder, steps or side. Blow bubbles through mouth and nose. Submerge mouth, nose and eyes. Open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects. Front and back glides and recover to a vertical position. Back float and recover to a vertical position. Roll from front to back and back to front. Tread with arm and hand actions. Alternating and simultaneous leg actions on front and back. Alternating and simultaneous arm actions on front and back. Experience wearing a life jacket in the water. Learn how to stay safe, including recognizing and emergency and knowing how to call for help. Learn how to stay safe in, on and around the water, including the use of a life jacket, recognizing lifeguards and sun safety. Certification Requirements: Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities, including in-water skills. Successfully complete the following exit skills assessment (can be done with support): Enter independently, using either the ladder, steps or side, travel at least 5 yards, submerge to mouth and blow bubbles for at least 3 seconds then safely exit the water. (Children can walk, move along the gutter or "swim.") While in shallow water, glide on front at least 2 body lengths, then roll to back and float on back for 3 seconds then recover to a vertical position.
  • Preschool 2 - Ages 3-4

    Purpose: To build on the basic aquatic skills learned in Preschool 1 Prerequisites: Successfully demonstrate the exit skills assessments from Preschool Aquatics Level 1 Learning Objectives ƒ Enter water by stepping in ƒ Exit water using ladder, steps or side ƒ Bobbing ƒ Open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects ƒ Front and back floats and glides ƒ Recover from a front or back float or glide to a vertical position ƒ Roll from front to back and back to front ƒ Tread water using arm and leg actions ƒ Combined arm and leg actions on front and back or back ƒ Finning arm action on back ƒ Learn how to stay safe, including recognizing an emergency and knowing how to call for help ƒ Learn how to stay safe in, on and around the water, including the use of a life jacket, recognizing lifeguards and sun safety. Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities, including in-water skills ƒ Successfully complete the following exit skills assessment (can be done with assistance): 1. Glide on front at least 2 body lengths, roll to back, float on back for 5 seconds then recover to a vertical position. 2. Glide on back for at least 2 body lengths, roll to front, float for 5 seconds then recover to a vertical position. 3. Swim using combined arm and leg actions on front for 3 body lengths, roll to back, float for 5 seconds, roll to front then continue swimming on front for 3 body lengths.

    Purpose: To increase proficiency and build on the basic aquatic skills learned in preschool levels 1 and 2 by providing additional guided practice with increased distances and times Prerequisites Successfully demonstrate the exit skills assessments of Preschool Aquatics Level 2 Learning Objectives ƒ Enter water by jumping in ƒ Fully submerge and hold breath ƒ Bobbing ƒ Front, jellyfish and tuck floats ƒ Recover from a front or back float or glide to a vertical position ƒ Back float and glide ƒ Change direction of travel while swimming on front and back ƒ Combined arm and leg actions on front and back ƒ Tread water using arm and leg actions ƒ Combined arm and leg actions on front and back ƒ Learn how to stay safe, including recognizing an emergency and knowing how to call for help ƒ Learn how to stay safe in, on and around the water, including the use of a life jacket, recognizing lifeguards and sun safety. Certification Requirements ƒ Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities, including in-water skills ƒ Successfully complete the following exit skills assessment: 1. Step from side into chest-deep water, move into a front float for 5 seconds, roll to back, float for 5 seconds then return to a vertical position. 2. Move into a back float for 5 seconds, roll to front then recover to a vertical position. 3. Push off and swim using combined arm and leg actions on front for 5 body lengths, roll to back, float for 15 seconds, roll to front then continue swimming for 5 body lengths.

    Our private lessons can help swimmers looking to build comfort and basic water skills with an instructor. These lessons provide a supportive setting to help learn swim basics or provide extra attention on strokes and level progression. Private lessons are for people of all ages and abilities. (Participants can walk, move along the gutter or "swim") Glide on front at least 2 body lengths, roll to a back float for 2 seconds and recover to a vertical position. (This part of the assessment can be performed with support.)
  • Youth Level 2 - Ages 5+

    Purpose To give participants success with fundamental skills, including learning how to float without support and to recover to a vertical position. Prerequisites Valid American Red Cross Learn to Swim Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills OR Successful demonstration of all certification requirements from Level 1 Learning Objectives Enter and exit water by stepping or jumping from the side Fully submerge and hold breath Bobbing Open eyes underwater and retrieve submerged objects Front, jellyfish and tuck floats Recover to a vertical position Roll from front to back and back to front Change direction of travel while swimming on front or back Tread water using arm and leg actions Combined arm and leg actions on front and back Finning arm action Learn how to stay safe, including recognizing an emergency, knowing how to call for help and perform simple non-swimming assists Learn how to stay safe in, on and around water, including the use of life jacket, recognizing lifeguards and sun safety Learn to look carefully before entering the water Learn what to think about and do when exhausted or caught in a dangerous situation

    Purpose To build on the skills in Level 2 by providing additional guided practice in deeper water Prerequisites Successful demonstrate of all certification requirements from Level 2 Learning Objectives Enter water by jumping from the side Headfirst entries from the side in sitting and kneeling positions Bobbing while moving toward safety Rotary breathing Survival float Back float Change from vertical to horizontal position on front and back Tread water Flutter, scissor, dolphin and breaststroke kicks on front Front crawl and elementary backstroke Learn to look carefully before entering the water Learn to perform simple non-swimming assists Learn to recognize, prevent and respond to cold water emergencies Certification Requirements Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities, including in-water skills Successfully complete the following exit skills assessment: Jump into deep water from the side, swim front crawl for 15 yards, maintain position by treading or floating for 30 seconds and swim elementary backstroke for 15 yards.
  • Youth Level 4 - Ages 5+

    Purpose: To develop participants' confidence in the strokes learned in Level 3 and to improve other aquatic skills. Prerequisites: Successful demonstration of all completion requirements from Level 3 Learning Objectives: Headfirst entries from the side in compact and stride positions Swim under water Feet first surface dive Survival swimming Front crawl and backstroke open turns Tread water using 2 different kicks Front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly Flutter and dolphin kicks on back Learn to look carefully before entering the water Learn what to think about and do when exhausted or caught in a dangerous situation Learn to perform simple non-swimming assists Learn about recreational water illnesses and how to prevent them Certification Requirements: Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities, including in-water skills Successfully complete the following exit skills assessment: Perform a feet first entry into deep water, swim front crawl for 25 yards, change direction and position as necessary and swim elementary backstroke for 25 yards. Swim breaststroke for 15 yards, change direction and position as necessary and swim back crawl for 15 yards.

    Swimming and Skill Proficiency Objective: Refine strokes so students swim them with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances Requirements: Students entering this level must possess a Level 5 certificate or demonstrate all the Level 5 skills Skills Covered: 500 yards continuous swim using 100 yards each of front & back crawl, 50 yards each of breastroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke & butterfly and 100 yards choice of any of those strokes, survival floating and back floating 5 minutes each, feet first surface dive & retrieve an object from 7 feet, Cooper 12-minute swim test
