    Do you already know the basics (floating, gliding, and submerging)? This class is designed for adults who are have a start to swimming, but would like to work on refining their strokes and deep water introduction. The instructor will work with this small group of participants on these topics. Please note the following: There is limited locker room changing available. You are encouraged to come in your swimsuit and leave in your swimsuit (depending upon weather). If the participant is not feeling well, PLEASE do not come to class.

  • Adult Fitness - Deep Water Aqua Jog

    Maximize your results in this mixed training program. Aqua Jogging is an intense, but non-impact, exercise alternative that will challenge all levels of participants. Workout includes safe, effective lower body variations and specific arm movements. All activities are done in water 9-12 feet deep. A jogging belt is worn to hold the participant in a vertical position. Jogging belts are provided, but they are also available for purchase at the Roosevelt Community Pool Office prior to class starting. Please note the following restrictions: The participant may enter the pool facility five minutes prior to class. There will be no use of lockers in the locker rooms; only use of showers (to rinse off before and after class) and bathroom use. Participants are asked to bring their belongings in a bag on the pool deck. There is limited locker room changing available. You are encouraged to come in your swimsuit and leave in your swimsuit (depending upon weather). If the participant is not feeling well, PLEASE do not come to class. Our Adult Fitness Programs have two ways to attend: Register online for a spot in the class. Please note, if we reach the class capacity drop-in will not be available. Drop in fee: $8.00 per class - ages 18+
  • Adult Fitness - Lap Swimming

    Swim laps in designated lap swim lanes for fitness and conditioning. Participants are able and encouraged to share a lane. Please note the following restrictions: The participant may enter the pool facility five minutes prior to class. If the participant is not feeling well, PLEASE do not come to swim. Our Adult Fitness Programs have two ways to attend: Register online for a season pass - good for specific dates and times. This guarantees you a spot and is available for a reduced rate. If a lap swimming lesson is not at capacity, drop in is available for a fee of $5.00. Swim masks are not allowed during any of our lap swim or recreational swim sessions. Lap swimmers may wear goggles (that do not cover the nose).
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Class

    The Lifeguarding Instructor course trains instructor candidates to teach American Red Cross Lifeguarding courses including Lifeguarding Shallow Water Lifeguarding Aquatic Attraction Lifeguarding Waterpark Skills Waterfront Skills CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Bloodborne Pathogens Training. This class is taught in a blended learning format and the online portion (accessed via mobile desktop or tablet) must be completed prior to attending the first in-person session of the instructor course. Prerequisites: 1. Minimum age: 17 years 2. Possess a current Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid 3. Ability to successfully demonstrate all Lifeguarding and CPR skills including a precourse assessment to perform a water rescue (submerged drowning) extrication single rescuer CPR for 3 minutes. Lifeguard Instructor Book is included.

    An abbreviated Lifeguarding course that briefly reviews course information and allows practice of skills and knowledge before testing. Current certification in Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED is required to participate in the review course. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED which is valid for 2 years.

    Interested in a great part-time job or challenging career as a professional lifeguard? Through videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you’ll learn teamwork, rescue and surveillance skills, First Aid and CPR/AED and other skills you need to work as a professional lifeguard. This class is a blended learning course, with some in-person and some online work. All in-person sessions must be attended to obtain certification. Must be 15 years old by the final day of class Blended Learning course format 19 hours, 30 minutes in-person/7 hours 30 minutes online (27 hours) You must pass a pre-course skills assessment the first class in order to continue the class. The skills assessment is the following: 1) Be able to swim 300 Yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Swim goggles may be used. 2) Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. 3) Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds: a) Starting in the water, swim 20 Yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are NOT allowed. b) Surface dive, feet first or head first, to a depth of 7-10 feet and retrieve a 10 pound object. c) Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to return to the starting point, with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps. The above skill test will be administered as the first thing in the course. Please be prepared. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED which is valid for 2 years.

  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor

    American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) - Ages 16+ Become certified to teach American Red Cross swim lessons. Upon completion, attendees will be able to teach all the skills for American Red Cross swimming levels, organize lesson plans in a progressive manner, fill out student skill sheets, and give corrective and positive feedback. Attendance is required for ALL classes. Coursework for the blended learning portion MUST be completed prior to the first day of class (this will be provided via online link). Prerequisites: On the first day of class, you must be prepared to: - Produce a driver's license or birth certificate showing you are at least 16 years old by the last day of class. - Demonstrate swimming skills equivalent to the American Red Cross Level 4 requirements. - Complete the online pre-course work for the Water Safety Instructor course.

  • Competitive Swim Training

    This program is for participants in 6th-12th grades. The prerequisite for this program is: participants must be able to swim 50 continuous yards of freestyle and backstroke, 25 yards of breaststroke or passed Level 4. The following guidelines will need to be followed in order to participate in the program: The participant may enter the pool facility five minutes prior to class. There will be limited locker room usage. Participants are encouraged to bring a bag for their clothes to bring out on the pool deck or they can bring a lock to lock up their belongings. The participant should bring the following: goggles, swim cap, towel, and a plastic water bottle. Please bring the following: googles, kickboard*, and pull buoy*. If you do not have these, you may use the ones provided by Roosevelt. Googles are available for purchase. The participant must be picked up within five minutes after the program is done, as the facility will be closing. This is a drop off and pick up program. If the participant is not feeling well, PLEASE do not come to class. This program is done on a monthly basis. You must register for each month independently to be registered. This includes: Monday & Wednesday Evenings swim practice with coaching Saturday Optional Swim with workout - Drop-in any time between 9:30 am- 11:30 am to complete the posted workout. No partial or pro-rated fees for absences/ vacations/ etc.

  • Open Swim Session

    OPEN SWIM All ages are welcome during our open swim hours! Open swim time allows the opportunity for young swimmers to practice their skills, or just play and have fun. An adult is required to be in the water with children under the age of 7 (within arms reach) OR for swimmers who must wear a lifejacket to swim. Lap swim and water walking in the lanes will also be available during this time as space allows. Open swim includes: Shallow end use for all swimmers Deep end swimming for all swimmers (not wearing a lifejacket) who complete a swim test. Diving board usage - one diving board will be open for diving and forward jumping. Shallow end basketball hoop and basketballs Rings, noodles, etc. Please note: Goggles which over the nose (face masks or snorkeling masks) and inflatables are not permitted. Swimmers who need to wear a lifejacket may not go to the deep end, regardless of whether or not they have an adult/competent swimmer accompanying them. Drop-ins will be accepted if we have available space. The fee is the same as online, six dollars. Pre-registration is encouraged, but we will accept drop-ins (depending upon capacity). Please note: refunds are only available on cancellations five days in advance and incur a $1.00 processing fee per transaction.

Parent or other caregiver must accompany each child into the water and participate in each class. It can be a different person each time. Learning Objectives (Parent and Child Level 1 and 2 Combined): Learn to ask for permission before entering the water. Learn to expect adult supervision when near water. Learn how to enter and exit the water in a safe manner. Feel comfortable in the water. Explore submerging to the mouth, nose and eyes completely. Explore submerging in a rhythmic pattern completely. Explore buoyancy on the front and back position. Glide on the front and back with assistance. Perform combined stroke on front and back with assistance. Change body position in the water with support. Learn basic water safety rules and how to avoid water hazards around the home. Learn about the importance of wearing a life jacket and experience wearing one. Learn how to stay safe in, on and around the water, including knowing how to stay safe in the sun and how to avoid recreational water illnesses. Learn to look carefully before entering the water. Learn how to call for help and the importance of knowing first aid and CPR. Learn what to think about and do when exhausted or caught in a dangerous situation.

Glide on back for at least 2 body lengths, roll to front, float for 5 seconds then recover to a vertical position. 3.
