Merry Music Makers

Adults with special needs / Music and Theatre -
PP - Fall 2024

Sing traditional holiday favorites as you rehearse weekly with friends in a fun and relaxed classroom. At the end of the session, show off what we have learned at our annual holiday concert. Concert will be on Wednesday, December 11 at Northdale Middle School. Invite your family and friends to watch you perform. All abilities are welcome. We do not meet on November 27. This class was made possible by the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council.

I was born in Marshall Minnesota and lived on a farm for the first 18 years of my life. My favorite hobby is to try any type of creative craft. I started working with the community schools in 1992 as an integration assistant. I have worked with all age groups in many situations. My jobs varied from senior outings to t-ball with preschoolers and teaching students how to use the computer. I have taught classes for Project Power for over 20 years. I teach most of the Project Power craft, cooking and baking classes. I have subbed for just about all of the other classes. I have years of experience and I enjoy the people and the classes. The best part of Project Power is the opportunity to work with the participants and other staff. I have worked with so many wonderful people and I have had so many laughs.

Mandi Verstegen

Originally from Appleton, Wisconsin, I now live in Minneapolis and spend my days as a board-certified music therapist helping people connect to themselves, their goals, and others through music. I have my Masters in Music Therapy from the University of Minnesota and Bachelors in Voice Performance from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. One of the great honors of my work is getting to teach the Merry Music Makers, which I have done since 2015. Music is a powerful way for us to connect to our experiences and relate to each other and the Merry Music Makers do this each time they meet! The singers create a beautiful community where everyone is welcome and each of us has the power and support to find our own voice. I love hearing the singers talk about how music connects us to ourselves, each other, the world around us. When I’m not making music, I love to be in nature, travel and explore new places, create, and spend time with my family.
