Stained Glass Suncatchers

Adult activities and classes / Create / Glass, Mosaic and Pottery -
Adult - Winter/Spring 2025

**NOTE: January and April dates have a LOCATION CHANGE from catalog**

This class is a great way for beginners to check out this amazing craft. Choose from a variety of patterns and glass to personalize your creations. All the tools and supplies are provided. In the first session, students learn how to score the glass and break it. In the second session, we will apply a thin copperfoil to the edge and solder everything together. Students will have time to complete 3-4 items. See the description of appropriate clothing to wear to class.

Class requirements

  • Please wear clothing with a smooth hard finished surface, like denim or t-shirt knit. Glass chips will stick in sweaters, fleece or lace.
  • Best to wear shirts with a high neckline.
  • Shoes should not have open toes, or open tops (like a slip-on), also leather is better than a mesh that would catch glass chips.

Eligible UCare members may receive an allowance to spend toward community education classes. Members must have UCare insurance at the time of registration. Limits and restrictions may apply. Contact UCare for further information.

Lisa a B.A. in Psychology from the U of M and an M.B.A. from the University of St. Thomas. She works full-time as an personal assistant, but has been doing stained glass on the side for over 40 years. In high school, she took every art class she could from Art History and Architecture. Then she took a Community Ed class in stained glass (a course not offered in the school curriculum). It was the perfect combination of art and craft. She drew her first window design on a napkin and it turned out so cool; she was hooked.

Over the years, she has made hundreds of windows from suncatchers to large installations. In 2006, she completed two window walls in a church in Cameroun, Africa that were 36' long by 8' high. In 2018, she went back to Africa to install seventeen panels she made in Minnesota the previous year. She has been teaching community ed classes for the past six years now and loves getting other people enthusiastic about the art.

Lisa lives in Columbus,MN . She is married and has two grown sons and two grandsons.
