What's A Bobbin – Pattern Fundamentals

If you know how to use a sewing machine, but are lost when it comes to reading and following a sewing pattern, this class is for you. Learn how to understand envelope information as well as the ins and outs of pattern piece layout and cutting. From start to finish, Sandra will guide you through a step-by-step process that will demystify pattern directions. Leave class with a good start on a sewing project. Bring a beginner pattern and supplies listed below.

Bring to class: 

  • WEEK ONE 
    • simple, beginner sewing pattern 
    • fabric scissors or rotary cutter 
    • cutting mat 
  • WEEK TWO 
    • supplies from week 1 
    • fabric and notions listed on pattern envelope (discussed in week 1) 
    • matching thread 
    • pins 
    • ruler 
    • seam ripper

Sandra S.Bengtson, owner of Avant Garb Fashions, was fortunate to learn how to sew by her mother at age eight. Decades later, Sandra’s passion for sewing has paved the way to fulfilling a lifelong dream; teaching others. As her mother did for her, Sandra is committed to spread her love of sewing. Sandra believes that providing a warm, inclusive classroom environment with fun and laughter, maximizes the learning experience and may even foster new friendships.
