Adaptive Beginner

Aquatics - Spring 2025

We do not focus on diagnoses or labels. We teach swimming to students of all ages who are not served successfully by traditional group lessons, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Anxiety, ADHD, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and other sensory and physical/motor learning differences. Class sizes are for two.

Purpose

To begin developing positive attitudes, good swimming habits and safe practices in and around the water.

Prerequisites:

 No skill prerequisites. This class is for students  who are beginner swimmers.

Learning Objectives

  • Blow bubbles through mouth and nose
  • Bobbing
  • Open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects
  • Front and back glides and floats
  • Recover to vertical positions
  • Roll from front to back and back to front
  • Tread water using arm and hand actions
  • Alternating and simultaneous leg action on front and back
