Option 1 - Four-year-old preschool

Free, half-day (2.75 hours/day) Monday-Thursday preschool option with transportation included.

NOTE: For registrations beginning September 2, 2023

Thank you for your interest in Anoka-Hennepin Schools Preschool program. Although registration started in March, there is still availability in some classes. Your registration will go to holding status until our staff can review the registration then scan our sites for availability. When a match to one of your preferred classes is found, you will be contacted so the registration can be completed and your child's start date can be confirmed. If no match is made, you will be contacted for another possible option.

From September 2 to 17, registrations will not be processed while staff prepare for the start of the school year. Registrations will be processed in order of the date they were received beginning September 18 with the preschool start dates beginning the week of September 25. 


Option 1 is open to families who meet all three criteria:

  1. Are residents of the Anoka-Hennepin School District* with a child four years of age by September 1, 2023, 
  2. Meet annual household income guidelines (listed below), AND
  3. Live or attend daycare in the following school attendance areas:

* If you are not a resident of the Anoka Hennepin School District or if your elementary school is not included on the above list, you are not eligible to register for option 1 - review other Anoka-Hennepin Schools Preschool options.


Income guidelines
Proof of income* is required to complete the registration please submit this as soon as possible. This must be received within two weeks of registration. Without proof of income, your child will not be placed in a class.


Households with more than ten family members may call the Anoka-Hennepin Schools Preschool office at 763-506-1500 for further guidance. 
Household members include all people living in the same household, related or not (such as grandparents, other relatives, or friends) who share income and expenses.

*The following are examples of the required documentation accepted for proof of income (use either #1 or #2):

#1 – Proof of participation in one or more of the following programs:

Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP)
Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP)
Food Support (SNAP) – copy of acceptance letter
Head Start
Foster Care

OR

#2 – One of the following income verification methods for all members of the household who are working:

Copy of 2022 Tax Return with the Adjusted Gross Income and number of dependants listed.
Copy of 2022 W2 form for parents/guardians 


Student class placement
Students will be placed in morning or afternoon classes based on school district bus routes. Families will be notified of the preschool class schedule before August 2023.

Registrations are welcome throughout the year and will be placed as space is available until all classes are full.

Class schedule
Classes are held Monday-Thursday with both morning and afternoon sessions. Classes closely align with the Anoka-Hennepin School District calendar and run September 2023 through May 2024. 

Meals
As part of the USDA Free and Reduced School Meals Program, children attending preschool in the morning will be served breakfast or a snack. Children attending preschool in the afternoon will be served lunch or a snack.
